PUBG – a worth playing game or jeopardizing kids psychologically

Hello Everyone! I hope and pray all of you are safe at your home with your family, in this pandemic time. As per the huge demand of my clients and friends, I am writing this Article for the sake of information and I wish this would be beneficial to each one of you.

“PUBG or Player Unknown’s Battleground”, is one of the most acclaimed or a super-game amongst Children, Youth, Celebrities, Youtubers and in fact every age game lovers, and it has been played each and every day non-stop. If you don’t know what PUBG is, then you are either not living in this world or not a part of this Internet Era at all. PUBG, is an online shooting game where players can play it solo or in teams and can even play it between 100 players at time into an encircled space to hunt for weapons, medical supplies, and other resources to become winner of the game and getting “chicken dinner” at the end.

Today in this modern internet world, things are pretty easier for each one of us in terms of playing thousands of games with multi users, entertainment, banking, shopping, communication, innovation, research, work from home, etc. Internet has given every netizen plethora of platforms which keeps every internet user busy online in doing multiple tasks/activities as per their interest. Many experts say that it is good to play games online, as it helps in nourishing one’s mind. Per contra, few experts say that playing games online corrupt the mind and is mere wastage of time and resources. However, in practical sense, if we get addicted to anything, it is bad for our health. In the similar way, what I feel is that playing games online like PUBG, is not a problem, but, getting addicted to it, could be the reason jeopardizing brains psychologically, especially of those children who are playing this game desperately with full dedication for hours, non-stop.

Recently, various issues and cases have been highlighted across media related to PUBG, where kids have committed suicide, lost their life due to heart stroke while playing PUBG, and even society have faced various anti-social behavior like violence, aggression, loot, Cyber Bullying, murder, addiction etc. It has been observed from various case studies, that children and young people as well, become violent, aggressive, and even go into depression when they are asked to stop playing this game.

In the recent past, a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) has been filed alleging that this game is, as addictive as a drug. However, it wasn’t directed by the Court, coz it is a game and technically it is difficult to ban it. PUBG, was banned in various part of the country earlier, like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar, however, the ban was lifted within few weeks, as technically it is a game and every player has got its ‘right to freedom’, to use any online platform to play any game and how non-players would take it, depends upon them.

Despite various attempts to ban PUBG, it has not been directed by High Courts of various states, to ban this game. On the other hand, the number of cases are rising and alarming too. There have been various cases, where it has been found that PUBG players are falling sick quite often, after playing this game continuously for extended hours. A few of the cases have been found, wherein, a 25 years old PUBG addict, killed his father, when he snatched his phone for not playing the game. In another case, a fitness trainer died during lock down, for playing this game for couple of days, non-stop. In another instance, a 12 years old child committed suicide, after he was being stopped by his mother to play this game on mobile and rather concentrate on his studies. In another case, a 16 years old boy died, due to heart attack, as he was playing PUBG from 6 hrs. non-stop and the last time he shouted was “blast-karo blast-karo” when he collapsed, his father said.

My dear friends, everything comes with good and bad effects and when it comes to a game, it is good, till the time it is relaxing your mind and body. Addiction to anything is harmful, mentally and physically too. All I would like to say is, PUBG is a good game to play, but addiction to it may have negative effects on health. Being parents, friends, near and dear ones, it is our responsibility at large, to observe the behavioral patterns of our children, friends, family members, and be heedful while playing this game, to avoid any kind of addiction to it and in case, if we witness any unnatural behavior in our children, we should try to resolve it by counseling them in a positive way and to make them understand the consequences, probably good or bad, and help them to deviate in other extra-curricular activities as well.
